Recording: First movement
Programme Note
Sketches of this piece emerged as part of the process of writing Muted The Night for the LSO. I wanted the harp to be the harmonic backbone of the orchestra, using detuned strings as an anchor for the strange tunings. The melody of the second movement was born out of those experiments. When quarantined during the COVID-19 Crisis, I retuned to these ideas. I wrote this at my partner's house, staring at the deadened street outside.
