Text
I don't remember that year,
I filled my head with strangers' stories.
I know there were things that we learnt,
I hoped you'd keep hold of them for me.
At least there's one last thing
We can do together,
Make it a royal mess or
Fade into sunny weather.
I'm still not sure that we changed.
We always had that nonsense in us,
That we'd attempt to restrain
Till circumstances wrung it from us.
I take it back, I want it back, ah!
Some parts of us are not part of me or you:
Shared spleen, shared home, shared sunscreen.
Oh, some parts of us are not part of me or you,
Not freely split between.
I'm sure one day we will meet,
In stranger cities after crisis,
Acknowledging nothing at all,
Remarking just, "How funny life is!"
And we will find new things
We can do together,
Be it forgetting
Or trying never to remember.
Some parts of us are not part of me or you:
Shared spleen, shared home, shared sunscreen.
Some parts of us are not part of me or you,
Not freely split between, not parts to give away.
Some parts of us are not parts of us,
Some parts of us are not here.
I don't remember that year,
I filled my head with strangers' stories.
I know there were things that we learnt,
